Corruption €904 billion every single year across de EU of which €90 billion in Spain, according to the report The Costs of Corruption across the European Union. This means that, in our country, we lose to corruption four times what we spend on unemployment. Corruption is undoubtedly one of the main threats to democracy.
Recent scandals, such as Panama Papers, have demonstrated how important whistleblowers’s revelations are to detect and prevent breaches of law harmful to the public interest and the welfare of society. Those people who choose to report on law breaches suffer severe negative consequences and a lack of effective whistleblower protection can also negatively impact the functioning of EU bodies and policies.
Project Punto Magenta aims at fighting corruption by empowering citizens to speak up and creating a safe environment for them.
Members of our team, Marta Salvador Mateo, Carlota Jover Ribalta and Josep Jover Padró, will be at the Democracy4All Barcelona Blockchain Week 2019 to present this project and speak about our fight against corruption under the topic “I spy with my little eye – Blockchain for transparency (Blockchain against corruption)”.
